THREADED NIPPLE A182 F53 SUPER DUPLEX STEEL FORGED FITTING B16.11

Overview

In the piping and plumbing sectors, the most widely used types of pipe fittings are pipe nipples, which consist of a short straight length of pipe with a male pipe thread on both ends for joining two different female threaded fittings or pipes. Pipe nipples are widely used as adapters between different types of connections. Pipe nipples are most frequently encountered in low-pressure pipe networks. They are intended to hold straight-end hose or pipe. The working pressure of pipe nipples varies according to the pipe’s size and design, as well as the temperature and fluid being transferred. Pipe nipples are offered in the widest range of wall thicknesses and materials in the industry. Pipe nipples are made by cutting a length of pipe and connecting the specific end connections. ASME B16.11. Standard determines the dimentions and materials of Pipe nipple. Pipe nipples can be seamless, threaded, grooved, barbed, bent, or welded.

Threaded pipe nipple is a short tube with male threads at both end or one end. The thread end can be NPT, BSPP, BSPT or other threads as per client's request. And if one end nipple is threaded, the end without thread can be plain or bevel end.

Common end connection types for pipe nipples:

  • Threaded End: Threaded pipe nipples have male threads on either end, allowing them to be screwed into female threaded fittings or pipes. The most common thread types are NPT (National Pipe Thread) and BSP (British Standard Pipe).
  • Plain End: Plain end pipe nipples do not have any threads on the ends. They are typically used in conjunction with fittings or couplings that have internal threads. The plain ends are inserted into the fittings and secured using various methods such as welding, brazing, or mechanical joining.
  • Beveled End: Beveled end pipe nipples have a sloping or chamfered edge on the ends. This type of connection is commonly used for butt welding, where the beveled ends are aligned and welded together to create a permanent and leak-resistant joint.
  • Flanged End: Flanged pipe nipples have a flange on one or both ends. Flanges are flat, circular discs with holes for bolts or studs. Flanged pipe nipples are used to connect pipes or equipment that have matching flanged ends. The connection is made by bolting the flanges together, creating a secure and sealed joint.
  • Grooved End: Grooved pipe nipples have grooves along the length of the pipe. They are used in grooved pipe systems that utilize grooved couplings. The grooves on the pipe nipple and corresponding grooves on the coupling create a secure and flexible connection when the coupling is tightened.
  • Socket Weld End: Socket weld pipe nipples have a socket or recess on one end, allowing them to be inserted into a socket weld fitting. The connection is made by welding the nipple to the fitting using a fillet weld.

The choice of pipe nipple end connection type depends on the specific requirements of the piping system, including the type of fittings or pipes being used, the application, and the desired level of convenience, flexibility, or permanence in the joint. It is crucial to consider compatibility, installation requirements, and industry standards when selecting the appropriate end connection type for your specific needs.
