ASTM A234 standard covers forged carbon steel and alloy steel fittings for seamless and welded structures covered by the latest versions of ASME B16.9, B16.11, MSS-SP-79, MSS-SP-83, MSS-SP-95, and MSS-SP-97. ASTM A234 WP5 Alloy Pipe Fittings Manufacturing and Heat Treatment Requirements

1.Manufacturing Process: Pipe fittings are manufactured by forging, rolling, machining, or a combination of these processes.

2.Heat Treatment: All WP5 pipe fittings must undergo a normalizing and tempering heat treatment after final forming.

• Normalizing involves heating the pipe fitting to above the austenitizing temperature, holding it evenly, and then cooling it in still air. This refines the grain size, homogenizes the microstructure, and improves mechanical properties.
• Tempering involves reheating the pipe fitting to an appropriate temperature below the critical point after normalizing, typically in the range of 650-750°C, holding it for a sufficient time, and then cooling it, usually in air. This relieves normalizing and cold working stresses, improves toughness, ductility, and dimensional stability, and adjusts the ultimate strength and hardness. 

Proper heat treatment is critical to ensuring that ASTM A234 WP5 alloy pipe fittings achieve the required strength, toughness, high-temperature properties, and hydrogen corrosion resistance.
