ASTM B407 N08811 alloy steel seamless heat exchanger tube is a high-performance nickel based alloy tube that complies with ASTM B407 standard specifications. It is mainly composed of elements such as nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), and chromium (Cr), with a relatively high content of nickel, which endows it with excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature oxidation resistance. In addition, carbon (C), manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), sulfur (S), phosphorus (P), aluminum (Al), titanium (Ti) and other elements are added to the alloy to further improve its mechanical and processing properties.

ASTM B407 N08811 Alloy Steel Seamless Heat Exchanger Tube Preparation and Processing


Preparation process: melting, casting, heat treatment (such as annealing, generally carried out between 1120~1170 ℃ to strengthen the grain and change its creep resistance and stress fracture performance), cold processing, etc.

Processing precautions: During the cold rolling process, careful operation is necessary to avoid serious damage to the outer surface of the pipe; After cold rolling, it needs to go through processes such as acid washing and polishing to remove oxide scale and defects




What is the difference between ASTM B407 N08811 and related alloys?

  • VS N08800: ASTM B407 N08800 has a lower carbon content, no lower limit on aluminum and titanium content, and no grain size requirements. ASTM B407 N08800 has lower high-temperature creep strength than N08811 and is primarily used in environments where oxidation and carburization resistance are required but creep requirements are less extreme.
  • VS N08810: ASTM B407 N08810 has similar carbon and Al+Ti content requirements to N08811 and also has grain size requirements, requiring ASTM Grade 3 or coarser. Its high-temperature creep strength is equivalent to or very close to that of N08811. N08811 and N08810 are often considered equivalent in high-temperature performance, and both significantly outperform N08800.
  • VS Alloy 600/601/625: In certain environments such as strong oxidation, strong carburization, and high-temperature water containing chloride ions, pure nickel-based alloys or alloys containing higher amounts of nickel, chromium, or molybdenum may offer advantages, but this also comes at a higher cost. In comparison, N08811 is more competitive in terms of cost-effectiveness and specific high-temperature strength.
  • VS Austenitic Stainless Steel (e.g., 304H, 309S, 310S): Austenitic stainless steels offer lower costs, but when operating at extremely high temperatures (>800°C), their strength, carburization resistance, and creep resistance decrease significantly, far inferior to the N08811 nickel-based alloy.

  • Petrochemical Industry: Ethylene cracking furnace tubes are the most classic and important application for ASTM B407 N08810 nickel-based alloy tubes. High-temperature hydrocarbon vapors flow inside the tubes, while flames burn outside, creating extremely harsh operating conditions. Pipes used in hydrogen converters, styrene reactors, and steam methane reformers are also included.
  • Energy and Power Industry: Superheater tubes, reheater tubes, high-temperature heat exchanger tubes, and certain components in nuclear power plants.
  • Industrial Heat Treatment Furnaces: Radiant tubes, muffles, and furnace rollers are used in processes such as carburizing, nitriding, and sintering.
  • Chemical Processing Industry: Piping systems involved in transporting high-temperature, corrosive media.
