It is also widely used in the nuclear industry.

• Process type: ASTM A249 standard covers seamless steel tubes and welded steel tubes. Seamless tubes are mainly produced through perforation, extrusion, or hot rolling/cold drawing processes, with no weld seams on the surface; Welded tubes are usually made by using automatic welding processes such as TIG welding, laser welding, plasma welding, and high-frequency welding to curl and shape steel strips or plates, and then weld them together. Welded tubes need to meet the same mechanical properties, corrosion testing, and flaw detection requirements as seamless tubes.
• Heat treatment: All ASTM A249 TP316L tubes must undergo solution heat treatment to completely dissolve carbides into the austenitic matrix and allow the material to recrystallize and soften, achieving optimal corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. The main method is to first heat to a high temperature of about 1040-1150 ° C (1900-2100 ° F), and then rapidly cool (quench), usually by water quenching or spray cooling. This ensures that carbides do not precipitate in the sensitization temperature range, maintaining the material's resistance to intergranular corrosion.
• Surface treatment: Depending on the application requirements, acid pickling passivation (removal of oxide scale and formation of passivation film), polishing (mechanical polishing to achieve Ra value requirements, especially for sanitary applications), sandblasting and other treatments may be carried out.
