ASTM B366 C276 elbow is a high-performance, corrosion-resistant piping component specified for the most demanding industrial applications where system integrity and longevity in corrosive service are paramount.
Common "Look-Alikes" & Alternatives
Alloy C22 (UNS N06022): A superior alternative in many oxidizing and mixed acid environments. It has slightly better resistance to pitting/crevice corrosion and is often preferred for modern Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems and harsh chemical processes. It is comparably priced or slightly higher than C276.
Alloy 625 (UNS N06625): While also excellent, it's more known for its high strength and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures, and resistance to pitting. Its corrosion resistance in reducing acids is not as robust as C276. It's often chosen for high-strength, marine, or sour service applications.
Alloy B2/B3 (UNS N10665 / N10675): Excellent for pure hydrochloric acid and other reducing environments, but poor in the presence of any oxidizers (like ferric ions). C276 is a more balanced, versatile choice for unknown or fluctuating chemistries.
6-Moly Super Austenitics (e.g., 254 SMO, AL-6XN): These are high-performance stainless steels (iron-based). They are a cost-effective alternative for seawater and chloride services where C276 might be over-specified, but they cannot match C276's resistance to hot, concentrated sulfuric or hydrochloric acids.

Important Considerations
Cost: Alloy C276 fittings are significantly more expensive than standard stainless steel fittings due to the high nickel, molybdenum, and chromium content.
Counterfeits/Mislabeling: Ensure material certification (Mill Test Certificate - MTC) is provided, traceable to the heat/lot number. Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing on-site is a common verification practice.
Machining & Welding: Requires specialized procedures. Welding should use matching or over-alloyed filler metal (e.g., ERNiCrMo-4).
Alternative Grades: For even more severe oxidizing conditions or higher temperatures, grades like C22 (UNS N06022) or C2000 (UNS N06200) might be considered.
