The ASTM A270 TP316L Seamless Stainless Steel Bright Annealed Sanitary Tube is a high-purity, corrosion-resistant tubular product specifically manufactured for applications requiring strict hygiene standards. It conforms to the ASTM A270 standard, which is the standard specification for seamless and welded austenitic and ferritic/austenitic stainless steel sanitary tubing. Stainless steel sanitary tubes are one of the most important parts of industries which require absolute cleanliness and product purity, such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food and beverage processing, cosmetics, and so on. Unlike standard industrial tubes, sanitary tubes are designed with specific criteria:

• Cleanability: The interior surface must be smooth and non-porous to prevent bacterial growth and allow for thorough cleaning-in-place (CIP) and sterilization-in-place (SIP) procedures.
• Corrosion Resistance: They must withstand aggressive cleaning agents, sterilizing media (like steam), and the products themselves.
• Mechanical Integrity: They must maintain strength and durability under pressure, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical stress.
• The ASTM A270 standard governs the dimensional, mechanical, and material requirements for these tubes, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of hygienic applications.

Different Surface Finish:

• Bright Annealed (BA): The surface is smooth, bright, and mirror-like. It is produced by cold rolling and then annealing in a protective atmosphere. The resulting surface has low roughness, typically in the range of Ra 0.4 – 0.8 µm (16 – 32 micro-inch) , making it excellent for cleanability.
• Mechanical Polished (MP): Achieved by mechanically grinding and polishing the tube surface. Finishes are often described by grit size (e.g., 150 grit, 180 grit, 320 grit). The most common sanitary polish is 180 grit (approximately Ra < 0.8 µm) or 320 grit (Ra < 0.4 µm).
• Pickled (2B): A mill finish that is dull grey. It is created by annealing in an uncontrolled atmosphere (causing scale) and then pickling in an acid bath to remove the scale. This finish is not smooth enough for sanitary contact surfaces.
• Electropolished (EP): An electrochemical process that removes a thin layer of metal from the surface. It creates an ultra-smooth, non-stick, highly passive surface with roughness as low as Ra < 0.2 – 0.4 µm. It is often performed on tubes that have already been mechanically polished or bright annealed.
