Overwiew of ASTM A234 WPB-S Elbow
An A234 WPB Elbow is a standard carbon steel butt‑weld pipe fitting used to change flow direction in pressure piping systems.ASTM A234 is the global specification for wrought carbon and alloy steel fittings for moderate and high‑temperature service. WPB denotes the material grade: W = wrought (forged/formed, not cast), P = pressure‑rating, B = carbon steel equivalent to A106 Grade B.
This elbow is manufactured to ASME B16.9, typically in 45° and 90° angles, with long radius (LR, 1.5D) as standard. It connects by welding to pipe ends, suitable for NPS ½” to 48”, various schedules (SCH 40, SCH 80, XS).
Widely used in oil, gas, power, chemical, and industrial piping, it offers good strength and weldability from −29°C up to approximately 425°C. It is the most common carbon steel elbow for general‑purpose pressure systems.
