SA213 T5 is a specification for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes under the ASME SA213/ASTM A213 standard. The T5 grade is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel designed for high-temperature service, particularly in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers. It offers good oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength, making it suitable for elevated-temperature applications.


ASTM A213 Standard

  • Key Features of SA213 T5:
    Material Type: Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel.
    High-Temperature Performance: Designed for use in high-temperature environments, such as boilers and superheaters.
    Corrosion Resistance: Good resistance to oxidation and scaling at elevated temperatures.
    Weldability: Can be welded using appropriate procedures, but preheating and post-weld heat treatment may be required.


T5 Alloy Steel

  • T5 is a type of alloy steel, often referred to as 5% chromium steel. The general composition of T5 steel is:
    • Chromium (Cr): 4.5-5.5%
    • Molybdenum (Mo): 0.44-0.65%
    • Carbon (C): 0.45% maximum
    • Other elements may include silicon, manganese, and traces of sulfur and phosphorus.


Comparison with Other Grades:
SA213 T11: Similar to T5 but with slightly higher chromium content (1.00-1.50%) and lower molybdenum content (0.44-0.65%).
SA213 T22: Higher chromium (1.90-2.60%) and molybdenum (0.87-1.13%) content, offering better high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance.
SA213 T9: Higher chromium (8.00-10.00%) and molybdenum (0.90-1.10%) content, suitable for even more demanding high-temperature applications.
Standards and Certifications:
ASME SA213: Standard specification for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes.
ASTM A213: Equivalent to ASME SA213, used for the same applications.
