ASTM A312 Standard:
This specification covers seamless, welded, and heavily cold-worked austenitic stainless steel pipes designed for high-temperature service and corrosive environments. It ensures the tube meets stringent mechanical and chemical properties for reliability in demanding applications.

  • Grade: TP304H is a high-carbon variant of 304 stainless steel. The "H" denotes elevated carbon content (0.04–0.10%), enhancing high-temperature creep resistance and strength.
  • Properties: Excellent corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and durability under cyclic thermal conditions, making it ideal for temperatures above 525°C (977°F).

Serrated Fin Design:

Structure: Fins are mechanically attached (typically welded, extruded, or embedded) to the tube's exterior, featuring notched or serrated edges.

Function: The serrations disrupt fluid flow, creating turbulence that improves heat transfer efficiency by thinning the thermal boundary layer. They also reduce fouling by minimizing particulate buildup.

Applications:

1. Power Generation

  • Boilers & Superheaters: Used in coal-fired, gas-fired, or biomass power plants to transfer heat from combustion gases to water/steam. TP304H’s high-temperature strength (up to 800°C) resists creep and oxidation, while serrated fins maximize heat recovery from flue gases. Typical Operating Conditions: 540–620°C (1000–1150°F), high-pressure steam environments.
  • Economizers: Recovers waste heat from exhaust gases to preheat boiler feedwater. Serrations enhance turbulence, improving thermal efficiency in low-temperature zones (200–400°C).
  • Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG): Integral in combined-cycle power plants, transferring heat from gas turbine exhaust to generate steam. TP304H resists sulfurous exhaust corrosion.

2. Petrochemical & Refining

  • Process Heaters/Furnaces: Heats hydrocarbons in cracking units or reformers. Serrated fins withstand coking (carbon deposits) and thermal cycling, while TP304H resists sulfidation and chloride stress corrosion.
  • Waste Heat Recovery Systems: Recovers energy from high-temperature process streams (e.g., refinery flue gases) to preheat feedstocks or generate steam.

3. Chemical Processing

  • Acid Gas Heat Exchangers: Handles corrosive media (e.g., sulfuric acid, chlorine) in sulfuric acid plants or chlor-alkali units. TP304H’s chromium-nickel content provides pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.
  • Reactor Cooling/Heating Coils: Maintains precise temperatures in exothermic/endothermic reactions. Serrated fins ensure rapid heat exchange in aggressive chemical environments.
