What is the advantage of ASTM A268 /ASME SA268 TP405 tubes ?

1. Improved Weldability

TP405 contains aluminum stabilizers, which reduce grain growth and hardening during welding.

It is less likely to crack after welding compared with TP410 and other ferritic steels.

2.Good Oxidation & Heat Resistance

With about 12% chromium, TP405 performs well in high-temperature service, such as exhaust and furnace applications.

Better resistance to scaling (surface oxidation) than TP410.

3. No Need for Post-Weld Heat Treatment

Unlike some other ferritic stainless steels, TP405 usually does not require annealing after welding, saving manufacturing cost and time.

4. Better High-Temperature Toughness

It maintains mechanical strength and toughness at elevated temperatures where TP410 becomes brittle.

5. Moderate Corrosion Resistance at Low Cost

Provides reasonable corrosion resistance for general industrial service.

Lower cost than austenitic grades like 304 or 316.

6. Magnetic & Dimensionally Stable

As a ferritic stainless steel, it is magnetic, has low thermal expansion, and good dimensional stability under heat cycling.

 

ASTM A268 /ASME SA268 TP405 tubes are primarily composed of the following elements:
1. Chromium (Cr): 11.5% to 14.5%
2. Carbon (C): Maximum 0.08%
3. Nickel (Ni): Maximum 0.5%
4. Manganese (Mn): Maximum 1.0%
5. Silicon (Si): Maximum 1.0%
6. Phosphorus (P): Maximum 0.04%
7. Sulfur (S): Maximum 0.03%
ASTM A268 /ASME SA268 TP405 tubes Mechanical Properties:
The mechanical properties of SA-268 TP405 tubes are typically as follows:
- Tensile Strength: 415 MPa minimum
- Yield Strength: 205MPa minimum
- Elongation: 20% minimum
