Application Advantages of ASTM A358 TP316L Electric-Fusion-Welded Stainless Steel Pipe

 

  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance, Especially to Chlorides:​ The TP316L grade contains 2-3% Molybdenum, which provides superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in environments containing chlorides (e.g., seawater, chemical brines) compared to standard 304 grades. This makes it ideal for chemical processing and marine applications.
  • Cost-Effective for Large Diameter Piping:​ The Electric-Fusion-Welding (EFW) process allows for the economical production of large-diameter pipes (OD 1/2" to 24" as per ASTM A358) that are difficult or very costly to manufacture as seamless tubes, offering a great balance of performance and value for big pipeline projects.
  • High Integrity Welded Construction:​ The longitudinal weld seam created by the EFW process is of high quality and consistency. When combined with full solution annealing heat treatment, it results in a pipe with reliable mechanical properties and corrosion resistance along the weld, suitable for pressure applications.
