Product Standard & Definition

- Standard: ASTM A270. This is an ASTM international standard specifically for austenitic stainless steel sanitary tubes.

- Core Requirements: Unlike ordinary industrial pipe standards (such as ASTM A269 or A312), the A270 standard imposes stricter requirements for surface finish, cleanliness, and corrosion resistance to meet sanitary standards in the food, dairy, and pharmaceutical industries.

- Manufacturing Process: Welded. The tubes are manufactured using an automatic tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding process without the addition of filler metal. Post-weld heat treatment (solution annealing) is performed to relieve stress and restore corrosion resistance.

This specification covers grades of seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel sanitary tubing intended for use in the dairy and food industry and having special surface finishes. Pharmaceutical quality and finishes may be requested, as a supplementary requirement.
