The Delivery Condition: Annealed and Pickled (A&P)
This is the standard finishing condition for seamless stainless steel pipes and is crucial for performance:

• Annealing (Solution Treatment): The pipe is heated to a controlled temperature range of 1900°F to 2100°F (1040°C to 1150°C) and then rapidly quenched (water cooled). This process dissolves chromium carbides that may have precipitated during forming, softens the metal for ease of installation, eliminates residual stresses, and restores the fully austenitic, non-magnetic microstructure.

• Pickling: Following annealing, the pipe is submerged in a chemical solution (usually a mixture of nitric and hydrofluoric acids). This aggressively removes the heavy, black "mill scale" (oxide layer) formed during high-temperature heat treatment, as well as any free iron contamination from the rolling process. It leaves a clean, uniform, matte-silver surface that allows the natural chromium-oxide passive film to form immediately upon exposure to air.
