ASTM A213 TP321 Stainless Steel Seamless Tube
Stainless steel is known for its superior corrosion resistance compared to regular carbon steel, though it is not completely immune to corrosion. The presence of chromium forms a protective surface layer that prevents corrosion, while carbon steel rusts when exposed to moisture and air. These antioxidant properties make stainless steel ideal for various applications.
Stainless steel sheets are preferred where low maintenance and corrosion resistance are essential, used in modern building cladding, food hygiene industries, and more due to their antimicrobial qualities.
Stainless Steel Seamless (SMLS) pipes are manufactured by drawing a solid billet over a perforated rod, creating a hollow shell without welding. This process makes seamless pipes stronger, more reliable, and more pressure-resistant than welded alternatives.
Grades 321 and 347 are austenitic 18/8 steels stabilized with titanium (321) or niobium (347), resisting intergranular corrosion when heated between 425-850°C. Grade 321 is ideal for applications up to 900°C, offering high strength, scaling resistance, phase stability, and water corrosion resistance.
Grade 321H, with higher carbon content, provides increased high-temperature strength. However, Grade 321 is unsuitable as welding material due to titanium's poor transfer in high-temperature arcs; Grade 347 is preferred for welding and is the standard consumable for Grade 321.
Both grades offer excellent forming and welding characteristics, exceptional toughness at low temperatures, but Grade 321 does not polish well and is not recommended for decorative applications.
