S31803 belongs to duplex stainless steel. 22% chromium duplex (austenitic/ferritic) steel (2205 type), with moderate to high strength and good resistance to common corrosion/stress, corrosion/cracking.

In today's market, UNS S32205 is generally considered an upgraded and more commonly used grade of S31803. Their chemical compositions are very similar. S32205, by increasing the lower limit of nitrogen content, ensures sufficient austenite phase reformation in the weld heat-affected zone, thus guaranteeing the toughness and corrosion resistance of the weld joint. Therefore, S32205 is the preferred grade for modern 2205 duplex steel.
