Product Introduction & Standard Specification
The ASTM A179 / A179M Seamless Cold-Drawn Low-Carbon Steel Tube is a premium-grade tubing specifically engineered for high-efficiency heat transfer applications. This specification covers seamless, cold-drawn tubes with a minimum wall thickness, making them ideal for constructing reliable and compact heat exchangers, condensers, and similar thermal equipment.
The standard applies to tubes with outside diameters ranging from 1/8 inch to 3 inches (3.2 mm to 76.2 mm). It's important to note that mechanical property requirements do not apply to tubes with an outside diameter smaller than 1/8 inch [3.2 mm] or a wall thickness under 0.015 inches [0.4 mm]. This product conforms to the latest ASTM A179/A179M-24 standard and often meets the complementary general requirements of ASTM A450/A450M.
Material & Manufacturing Process
This tube is manufactured from low-carbon steel using a seamless process, ensuring there are no welded seams that could be potential failure points under thermal cycling and pressure. The final dimensional accuracy and enhanced mechanical properties are achieved through a cold-drawing process. The steel is produced under controlled conditions, with both heat (melt) analysis and product analysis performed to guarantee chemical composition conformity.
Chemical Composition & Mechanical Properties
The chemical composition is tightly controlled to ensure optimal weldability, formability, and corrosion resistance. A typical optimized composition for high-performance tubes is shown below.
