Common Surface Finishes:
1. Bright Annealed (BA) Surface
Tubes are annealed in a protective hydrogen atmosphere inside closed furnace. Surface is smooth, silver-bright, oxide-free, no pickling required. Very popular for heat exchangers, food & pharmaceutical equipment. Low surface roughness.
2. Pickled & Annealed (AP / Pickled Finish)
After solution heat treatment, tubes are treated with acid pickling to remove surface oxide scale. Uniform matte silver-grey surface, the most common commercial finish for ASTM A213 boiler tubes.
3. Polished Finish
Mechanical polishing, e.g. 180/320/400/600 grit. Custom requirement, less typical for standard A213 heat exchanger tubing, widely used for sanitary piping.
4. Hot Finished Black Surface
For large OD hot pierced seamless tubes, heavy oxide layer, usually pickling treatment is required before delivery.
