It is made from Alloy 625, a high-strength, highly corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy. ASTM B564 controls the material properties, while ASME B16.5 or B16.47 controls dimensions and pressure ratings. It is used to blank off or close the end of a pipe, valve, vessel, or piping opening in corrosive, high-temperature, or high-strength environment-- and widely used in chemical, marine, oil and gas, nuclear, and high-temperature applications where stainless steel or carbon steel would not survive.
