The A182 F9 flange refers to a specific type of flange made from ASTM A182 F9 material, which is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel. This material is commonly used in high-temperature and high-pressure applications, particularly in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation industries.It is a forged butt-weld flange for high-temperature, high-pressure piping connections. The tapered hub transfers stress smoothly; the raised face compresses spiral wound or flat gaskets for sealing. It is connected to matching ASTM A335 P9 pipe, A234 WP9 fittings, A217 C12 castings by full penetration butt weld, suitable for thermal cycling and creep service.
Main service conditions
- Working temperature up to ~550–600°C
- Good oxidation resistance, sulphidic corrosion resistance and high-temperature hydrogen attack resistance (per Nelson curve)
- Not for chloride corrosion service; not for supercritical ultra-high temp where F91 is required
