The ASTM A270 Sanitary tube is manufactured to meet stringent hygienic requirements. It is distinguished from standard industrial tubing by its high-purity internal surface finish, precise dimensional tolerances, and suitability for frequent cleaning and sterilization. The tubes are designed to prevent bacterial growth, resist product adhesion, and withstand corrosive cleaning agents like CIP (Clean-in-Place) solutions. Raw Materials:

• TP304/304L: The most commonly used stainless steel grade for sanitary applications. It offers excellent general corrosion resistance, good formability, and is cost-effective for most food and beverage services not involving highly chloridic or acidic environments.
• TP316/316L: Contains molybdenum (2–3%), which provides superior resistance to chlorides and acids (e.g., salt, vinegar, dairy acids). It is the preferred choice for more aggressive environments, such as brewing, juice processing, or coastal facilities.

Manufacturing Processes:

(1) Seamless Sanitary Tube:

• Produced by extruding or piercing a solid billet, then cold drawing to size.
• Advantages: No weld seam, uniform structure, preferred for high-pressure applications.
• Process: Billet → Heating → Piercing → Extrusion → Cold Drawing → Annealing → Pickling/Passivating → Polishing → Inspection.

(2) Welded Sanitary Tube:

• Formed from a rolled strip (plate or coil) and welded longitudinally using Automatic Orbital Welding (TIG) with no filler metal.
• Weld bead is controlled, smoothed, and fully polished to match parent metal finish.
• Advantages: Cost-effective, excellent dimensional consistency, widely used for most sanitary applications.

Post-Manufacturing: Both types undergo solution annealing (heat treatment) to restore corrosion properties, pickling to remove scale, passivation, and internal mechanical/electropolishing.
