Embedded Finned Tubes – A179 Base Tube Material


Embedded finned tubes, also known as G-type finned tubes, are high-performance heat transfer components widely used in industrial heat exchangers. The product uses ASTM A179 seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel as the base tube combined with aluminum fins that are mechanically embedded into the tube wall. This design significantly increases the external surface area, delivering superior heat transfer efficiency in air-cooled and gas-liquid applications.

Embedded Finned Tube Structure – A179 Base Tube Material


The tube consists of three main elements:

  • Base Tube: ASTM A179 seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel
  • Fins: High-purity aluminum (typically 1100 or 1050 grade)
  • Embedding Process: A helical groove is first cut into the outer surface of the base tube. The aluminum strip is then wound into the groove under high tension and the groove edges are peened over to lock the fin securely in place, ensuring excellent thermal contact and mechanical strength.
