ASTM A182 F11 CL2 Forged Discs Alloy Steel Forgings Forged Rounds Blanks for Industry
ASTM A182 Grade F11 Class 2 is a quenched-and-tempered, low-alloy chromium-molybdenum (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) steel forging specification. When supplied as discs, rounds, or blanks, it refers to hot-forged, near-net-shape solid metal pieces that are fully heat-treated to achieve high tensile strength (≥585 MPa) and creep resistance, specifically manufactured for subsequent finish-machining into critical pressure-containing components used in high-temperature (up to 565°C) and high-pressure industrial services. Intended solely as the starting material for machining finished components like flanges, valve bodies, pipe tees, tube sheets, and pressure vessel nozzles in power plants, oil refineries, and chemical reactors.

Forging Process for Discs, Rounds & Blanks
Process: The steel is melted (often via Electric Arc Furnace or VIM/VAR for critical applications), cast into ingots, and then hot-forged using open-die hammering or upset forging.
Forge Ratio: A minimum reduction ratio of 3:1 is typically required to ensure grain refinement and closure of internal porosity.
Grain Flow: For discs and blanks, the forging process is designed to maintain continuous grain flow around the circumference, which is critical for pressure-retaining applications.
Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Virtually all forgings are subject to 100% ultrasonic inspection per ASTM A388 to detect internal discontinuities (laminations, cracks, or porosity).
