2. Manufacture and Test Controls
Control Area Requirement
Melting Any steelmaking process; secondary melting permitted. Transition material from sequential strand casting must be separated.
Tensile Per ASTM A269/A269M; yield strength determined by 0.2% offset or 0.5% total extension.
Weld flash For OD over 2 in. [50.8 mm] or wall over 0.135 in. [3.44 mm], internal flash cut to 0.010 in. [0.25 mm] max. For OD 2 in. and under and wall 0.135 in. and under, 0.006 in. [0.15 mm] max.
Nondestructive examination Each tube examined by eddy current, ultrasonic or flux leakage methods. Reference notches/holes follow the invoked general requirements.
Hydrostatic alternative P = 32000t/D psi or P = 220.6t/D MPa; held at least 5 s; need not exceed 1000 psi [7 MPa] unless ordered higher.
Dimensions Wall, outside diameter, length, ovality and straightness follow the applicable tolerance tables of ASTM A269/A269M.
Repair welding Only with purchaser approval; repaired tubes marked "WR", reheat treated or stress relieved as required, and retested.

4. Applications
ASTM A269 TP316L welded tube is used where general corrosion resistance, weldability and clean dimensional control are required.
