ASTM A179/ASME SA179 Seamless Carbon Steel U Bend Tube is a seamless, cold-drawn, low-carbon steel tube manufactured according to ASTM A179/A179M and then cold-formed into a U shape. It is widely used in shell-and-tube heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators, feedwater heaters, and similar heat-transfer equipment. This A179 grade is low-carbon steel, with good ductility, moderate tensile strength and excellent cold formability. It is designed for service in heat exchangers, condensers, shell & tube heat transfer systems operating at moderate pressure and temperature. The U bend section must maintain wall thickness and integrity after bending; wall thinning at the bend radius is controlled within allowable limits per heat exchanger design codes.
