The ASTM A234 WP9 Class 1 180° alloy steel seamless elbow is a 9Cr-1Mo wrought butt-welding return bend supplied normalized and tempered, with beveled ends, seamless construction, and short-radius geometry. Grade WP9 is a 9Cr-1Mo alloy steel fitting grade with good elevated-temperature strength, creep resistance, and oxidation resistance. The 9% Cr content provides improved high-temperature oxidation and corrosion resistance compared with lower-chromium steels, while the 1% Mo contributes to creep strength and high-temperature stability. Because WP9 is an alloy steel requiring controlled heat treatment and welding, it is commonly used in power generation, boiler and steam piping, petrochemical and refinery high-temperature service, and other elevated-temperature applications where 9Cr-1Mo properties are required.
